Away•From•Home•USA is another stack available from the author of XrefText. It is a real-life travel directory for the rest of us who don't travel in "business class." It consists of a map of the US and all 50 states plus DC, and has the ability to add cities and data pertaining to those cities. Right now it is designed for restaurants, lodging, and diversions, but could grow in utility if the user community supports it. Available from GEnie, Compuserve, BCS, or if you send a disk with your XrefText shareware* fee.
It is offered as "Participative Shareware" as the author cannot know the best places all over the US. If users send a shareware fee AND data from the areas they know, the author will compile it all and feed it back through two updates. The shareware fee alone gets one set of gathered information.
The philosophy behind A•F•H is that HyperCard* is the first universally available system to make sharing of INFORMATION (rather than programs or tools) viable. Who knows? If enough people send me their information, it could grow to be the first shareware CD-ROM...I can dream, can't I?
